THE PROBLEM

  • Over 5 days, a man chooses one of his 10 ties to wear at random
  • His lady friend complains that he wears the same tie repeatedly
  • Does his wifey woman have a legitimate complaint...
  • Or is it just random probability?

THE SIMULATION

  • Range of integer values: 1-10
  • The man has 10 different ties
  • Generate 5 random integers each trial
  • The man wears ties 5 days a week
  • 10 trials

THE DATA

  • Trials with no repeats: 3, 30%
  • Trials with repeats: 7, 70%

THE EXPLANATION

  • Each integer stands for each different tie
  • When an integer was repeated, the man wore the corresponding tie repeatedly

THE CONCLUSION

  • The female husband has a legitimate complaint
  • The is a 70% chance that the man will wear a tie repeatedly
  • You should stop wearing the same tie idiot
  • Choose your ties like a normal person
