LORD OF THE FLIES

SYDNEY HOFFMAN

Plot archetypes
adventure and maturation
Adventure; the group of school boys were stranded on an island Not knowing where they were or how exactly they got there the boys had to go out of their comfort zones to try to survive. the boys had to explore the island trying to find out where they are.
Maturation: throughout the story the group of boys mature greatly. with no adults to take care of them they have to learn how to get food, make shelters, and survive until rescued.

superiority
the conch shell is the symbol of superiority, like a crown. whoever has the conch is superior over the rest, they have the right to talk and are in charge. it calls peoples attention to listen to what the superior people or persons have to say.

conch shell: the author portrays that the shell gives power to the holder to give orders and say what they want when they want.

the scholar
It has been said that the characters from the lord of the flies are a resemblance of an abstract idea of different government types. where as ralph is the good hearted leader even though he isn't always the most effective he wants to rule by the consent of the people. in contrast piggy has his own downfalls but he can offer good advice to a leader. then theres jack who is a type off dictator who uses peoples emotions to get them to do what he wants them to do.

scholars cont.
Many may agree that lord of the flies shows a loss of civilization and innocence. This causes a dramatic conflict between civilization and savagery. The story also shows what man would be like if he were to be taken out of civilization.
