GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

  • Location: 30* north 30* south
  • Description: hot, dry, semi arid, arid
  • Soil type: sand
  • Precipitation: less than 25 centimeters a year
  • Temperature Range: scorching hot, freezing cold

BIODIVERSITY

  • Plant species: soap tree, barrel cactus, brittle brush, chain fruit and the Mohave aster.
  • Animal species: Sonoran desert toad, black widow, cactus wren, ostrich, and the
  • Kangaroo rat.

PLANT AND ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS

  • Cacti store water, some flowers spread seeds after they die
  • plants stay out of direct sunlight
  • Animals turn nocturnal, get water from seeds
  • Some animals stay under ground
  • Some animals have small bodies and large ears to dissipate heat
