• Max is 22 years old

• Max was the "Jewish Fist Fighter" (Chapter 31)
• Max's Father saved Hans in World War One, so the Hubberman's take him in.

Max and Liesel become good friends, she helps him stay in touch with the world while he is in hiding. "Often I wish this would all be over, Liesel, but then somehow you do something like walk down the basement steps with a snowman in your hand." (Max 313)
