ACORNS WERE A STAPLE FOOD FOR THE LUISEÑO.

THE LUISEÑOS USED A HAMMERSTONE

TO TAKE OFF THE ACORN SHELL. THE WINNOWING TRAY TAKES OFF THE SKIN.

A MORTOR AND A PESTLE WERE

USED TO GRIND THE ACORNS INTO A FIND FLOUR CALLED MEAL.

LEACHING TO REMOVE THE TANNIC ACID FROM THE ACORN MEAL TO EAT.

MEAL IN AN OLLA AND STIRED IT WITH A PADDLE.
