ABOUT HIM

• He was born September 6, 1757 in France
• His father was killed during the Battle of Minden by the British
• He joined the Freemasons at the age of 17
• Later, he joined the American Revolution at age 19

COMING TO AMERICA

• He purchased the ship, La Victoire, and sailed it to America
• It took 54 days to get to America
• Since he didn't know much English, he learned his first phrases while going to America
• June 1777, he spotted land in South Carolina

JOINING THE REVOLUTION

• He was filled with ideas for the Declaration of Independence
• He was eager to help with the battle of freedom
• He offered to help Washington and he became well trusted
• Washington considered him as his son
