The Japanese changed their tactics.

"It was a scene straight out of hell. There is no way to describe it," recalls Higa Tomiko, then a 7 year old girl, who survived.

• The commanding officers to both sides died.
• More than 12,000 American lives were lost.
• More than 110,000 Japanese lives were lost.

The U.S. & U.K. defeated the Japanese.

This was the last primary war against the Japanese. With this win, we were closer to Japan. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima.
