On "helping" (aka on "consulting"):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPl3sdNmGU...yes, I am huge fan of Schein and use his methods in my consulting. Note my bias and determine if you agree:
Premise: no amount of technical help in any area, whether it be IT, accounting, KM, whatever, is useful and will be successful if the following conditions are not met:
a. the consultant is genuinely viewed as helpful by the majority of affected stakeholders
b. the consultant's ideas and suggestions are shown to take into account and validate artifact/sacred aspects of the organization, culture and central leadership (usually the owners)
c. most organizations have the required technical acumen already on hand, they just cannot access it because of cultural and leadership issues/obstacles
Agree/disagree? Why? (no need for a formal reply, just please think this over and pay close attention to your emotions when forming/noting your response)
