the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
The term racist has been around since 1936. The concept has been in the English language since 1862: "racial"; and since 1907: "racialism" and "racialist". Between 1907 and 1936, the view point of the term "racialist" appears to have changed from science to political science.
Studies show that police are more likely to pull over and frisk blacks or Latinos than whites. In New York City, 80% of the stops made were blacks and Latinos, and 85% of those people were frisked, compared to a mere 8% of white people stopped.
In 2010, the U.S. Sentencing Commission reported that African Americans receive 10% longer sentences than whites through the federal system for the same crimes.
The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics concluded that an African American male born in 2001 has a 32% chance of going to jail in his lifetime, while a Latino male has a 17% chance, and a white male only has a 6% chance.
In our history many people have tried to stop the discrimination between races. There has been Martin Luther King Jr., Joan Baez, Cesar Chavez, and even Rosa Parks. They yearn for equality between races and to not be discriminated against one another due to the pigment of their skin. Everyone is the same when it comes to the fact that we all have a heartbeat, feelings, blood in our veins, and air in our lungs.
This goes back to the slave times, and regarding people as things, not human beings. Now, everyone is around each other, and the racism isn't half as bad as it used to be, but some people are still aggressive towards those of another race.
We need to put an end to racism once and for all. We have the power to make the dreams of past activists come true; equality. We were all born the same with a heart, blood, and lungs, the only thing different is the pigment of our skin. Put an end to racism and a start to the peaceful future that has long been dreamed of.
