SITUATINOL IRONY
It involves a discrepancy between what is expected to happen and what actually happens.
Situation irony occurs when the exact opposite of what is meant to happen.

EXAMPLES:
1)A man who is a traffic cop gets his license suspended for unpaid parking tickets.
2) An ambulance driver goes to a nightime bike accident scene and runs over the accident victim because the victim has crawled to the center of the road with their bike.

Verbal Irony
Verbal irony is the use of words to mean something different from what a person actually says.

Examples:
1)Thanks for the ticket officer you just made my day!”

2) "I can’t wait to read the seven hundred page report.”

3) This car goes as fast as a Huffy bicycle.

4)He's as nice as a lion to his prey.

DRAMATIC IRONY

Dramatic irony occurs when there is miscommunication in a book, play or film and the audience is smarter than the characters.

Examples:
1) In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo thinks Juliet is dead and the audience knows she is not.

2) In Hamlet, we are aware that Hamlet knows the truth about his father’s murder and that Hamlet is not mad.

3) In a scary movie, the character walks into a house and the audience knows the killer is in the house.
