• Triple Alliance: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy
• Triple Entente: Russia, France, United Kingdom

Economic Rivalry

• Rivalry between Germany and Britain 
• Germany and France
• Germany and Austria vs. Russia

Arms Race

• Military rivalries began to "race" to build the best army.
• This occured specifically with European rivalries

Nationalism

• Everyone believed that their own country was the best
• From military, to economics and culture.  
• This caused a problem when it came to Europen war.
