  • changing the conflict from adversarial attack and defence, to co-operation.
  • powerful shift of attitude that alters the whole course of communication.
  • A win/win approach rests on strategies involving:
  • - going back to underlying needs, - recognition of individual differences
  • - attacking the problem, not the people.

EXAMPLE: NEGOTIATING

  • You and the person at a car dealership bargaining over the car price.
  • You find a price that's negotiable.
  • The car dealer gets payed and you have a car!

CREATIVE RESPONSE APPROACH

  • Turns problems into possibilities.
  • Consciously choosing to see what can be done.
  • You can take a conflict and turn it into a possibility.

EXAMPLE: FAILING A TEST

  • You failed a test, and your teacher does a review over the test.
  • Instead of being upset you are happy because the teacher lets you make it up.
