BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

  • When he was young and meek he was very sickly
  • Even so, he traveled with his family around the world
  • They hiked, and he realized being physical helped
  • So ge began boxing which led to his tough cowboy persona

He began as the Vice President to McKinley, where he was pretty unhappy and thought to be to "cowboy" for politics. After McKinley was shot and died, Roosevelt was sworn in as the 26th president

He promised to keep McKinley's cabinet and policies.
Then in Nov. 1904 Roosevelt won the presidency against Alton Brooks Parker.
His VP was Charles Warren Fairbanks

His wife was a prominent figure with the UN and an international spokesperson for women

He became known as the "trust buster", curbing the power of larger corporations.
He also responded to public outcry about abuses in food packaging. He passed Meat Inspection act and Pure Food and Drug act

He also set out to build the Panama Canal.
He had to convince congress to let him pass the canal in Panem, and he had a treaty written up, only to have it be rejected by the Columbian government. The Panamanians rebelled supported by Roosevelt and won.

MEMORABLE THINGS

  • Famous for his line "speak softly and carry a big stick"
  • He also focused on preserving national forests and parks
  • He launched the progressive "Bull Moose" party

He served two consecutive terms and then when he was finished, he pushed for the election of his good friend, Howard Taft

WHY TEDDY ROOSEVELT IS RAD

  • He was a rough rider
  • He was very bipartisan
  • The teddy bear is named after him
  • He was shot, and finished his speech
  • Hes on mount Rushmore, along with all the greats
