MECHANICAL ENERGY

ME=PE+KE (MECANICAL ENERGY=POTENTIAL ENERGY PLUS KENETIC ENERGY)

WHAT IS IT?

  • Mechanical energy is the combined energy used to move something.
  • It is measured in Joules.
  • An energy that applies 1N of force on an object to move it 1M.

POTENTIAL ENEGY

PE=MGH (POTENTIAL ENERGY=MASS*GRAVITY*HIGHT)
Photo by davedehetre

WHAT IS POTENTIAL ENERGY?

  • Stored energy due to position.
  • There are two types of potential energys.
  • Gravitational energy- energy due to position gravity id pulling on you
  • Elastic energy- energy die to stretching of eleastic objects, or springs.

KENETIC ENERGY

KE=.5M(V)^2/2 (KENETIC ENERGY= .2*MASS*(VOLOCITY SQUARED) DIVIDED 2
Photo by jamesmelzer

WHAT IS IT?

  • Kenetic Energy has three types. Vibrational,
  • Rotational, and Translational. Its movement of any kind.
  • Livening things, even when still, have KE, their cells, blood, heart
  • Are constently moving

WORK

J=N*M (WORK=FORCE*DISTANCE)

WHAT IS IT?

  • A force is that causes displacement, moves something
  • Over a distance, has to cause displacement to ne work.

POWER

W=J/S (WATTS= JOULES/SECONDS) (POWER=WORK/TIME)

WHAT IS IT?

  • How fast work is done.
  • "Horsepower"
  • Measured in watts.
  • Faster= more power Slower= less power

CONSERVATION OF ENERGY

Photo by vl8189

WHAT IS IT?

  • Energy can't be created or destroyed,
  • It can only be transformed.
  • Only the sun can creat energy.

Untitled Slide

NON-MECANICAL

WHAT IS IT?

  • Chemical energy- reliced when atoms split apart
  • Heat energy- when any object rubs aginst another ex: blisters form from it
  • Sound- KE-> vibrations ex: drum being hit by drum sticks
  • Electrical- electrons carry energy on a circuit. Light- nuclear fustion-> creats tons of E
  • Nuclear energy- fustion (atoms come together) & fission (atoms come apart)
