PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
BY LUCY GRAHAM
2.
SKELETON SECTIONS
The body is made up of two sections of bones: Axial & Appendicular
Functions of different bones
The roles bones have in our Body
3.
AXIAL
The axial has three major sections in the body,
They are the skull, the vertebral and the rib cage
The Axial's protectant support your vital organs
but it also carries other body parts.
4.
APPENDICULAR
This consists of bones of the upper
And lower limbs, your shoulder and pelvis
5.
BONES
Through exercising your bones will naturally become stronger
Having a bad posture can put an unnecessary strain on the bones
There are five different types of bones they are:
Short Flat
Long Irregular and sesamoid
6.
LONG BONES
These bones are cylindrical
There primary function is acting as levers
They only pull on muscles and never push!
There vital role is producing red blood cells
Femur, metatarsals and phalanges
7.
SHORT BONES
These bones are usually short and compact in nature
They are more often then not equal in length and width
They are designed to with hold strength and weight-bearing
Carpels and tarsals
8.
FLAT BONES
These bones offer protection to your vital organs of the body
Usually provide suitable sites for the muscle to attach
( the origins of muscle often attaching to them)
Scapula, cranium, sternum, ribs
9.
IRREGULAR BONE
Named irregular due to unique and odd shape
A complex and individual bone
Difficult to classify them because of varied functions
One of these functions is protection.
Vertebral, sacrum, mandible
10.
SESAMOID BONE
These bones have special functions
They ease the joint movement and resist friction and compression
Normally develop in the tendon
Covered with a layer of articular cartilage
Patella
