• Bishop of Smyrna in 96 A.D

• St. John the Evangelists
• Was a martyred preist of Rome
• Because of his teschings of the Apostles

Contribution
St. Polycarp was a disciple of St. John. He wrote to the Philippians about exhorting to them mutual love and to hatred of Hersey.

Story of St. Polycarp
"When the apostate Marcion met St. Polycarp. "He asked if he knew him. "Yes",he said. " I know you for the first born of Satan". These words came from a saint that was loving and charitable. St. Polycarp hated hersey because he loved God and man to much.

HOW HIS LIFE WAS SPENT

• Was converted to this faith by st. John the evangelists
• Became the Bishop of Smyrna
• He defended orthodoxy
• Orthodoxy- general aceptence of theory or practice

Reflection
If we love Jesus Christ, we shall love the Church and hate heresy, which rends His mystical body, and destroys the souls for which He died. Like St. Polycarp, we shall maintain our constancy in the faith by loves of Jesus Christ, Who is its author and its finisher."

DEATH

• Was a martyr- killed for what he believed in
• Died on February 23 year 167
• Was going to be burned at the stake
• Fire did not harm him, so was stabbed
