ANEMIA

ETIOLOGY

  • There are many causes for anemia
  • Iron/ vitamin deficiency
  • Symptom of disease or Virus such as Cancer or HIV

HOW IT LOOKS

  • Patient is pale
  • Sweaty
  • They have heavy and rapid breathing
  • Blue around lips and nail beds

HOW IT FEELS

  • The patient feels weak
  • Dizzy
  • Fatigues
  • Almost as if they were suffocating
  • Inability to focus or concentrate

WHO IS AFFECTED

  • Anyone can get Anemia regardless of race or gender.
  • Pregnant women are at a higher risk
  • Infants are at risk as well
  • People recovering from surgery
  • Some cases it is hereditary

TREATMENT

  • For iron anemia, diet change and iron supplements
  • If it is caused due to blood loss, a blood transfusion may be required
  • For vitamin anemia, vitamin supplement and in severe cases injections are needed

DANGER AND SURVIVAL

  • Anemia is not usually deadly
  • The rate of survival is extremely high
  • However there are rare anemias which directly affect the bone marrow which can be fatal
  • The anemia isn't usually deadly itself but it could be a symptom of something much worse
