ALLITERATION

  • The Repetition of the Same Letter.
  • Example:

IMAGERY

  • A Poem with images that explain it.
  • Example:
  • Hi Mr. (a picture of a pig)

ONOMATOPOEIA

  • A word that imitates the sound it represents.
  • Example:
  • Who? Pio, pio.

RHYMES

  • Different words that rhyme with another words at the end of a sentence.
  • Example:
  • (Cat, hat, crab.)

RHYME SCHEME

  • A repeated pattern of rhymed words at the end of the line.
  • Example:
  • Lusty eyes (A) Passionate cries (A)
  • Rich blood, (B) Bitter sweat (C)
  • She/he loves (D) And dies (A)

STANZA

  • A group of poetic lines (also called a verse)
  • Example:
  • Like glistening sun and moon like day and
  • Gloomy night like pure earth and gentle clouds
  • Transformation- Life and Death.

VERSE

  • One single line of a poem arranged in a metrical pattern. Also, a piece of poetry or a particular form of poetry.
  • Example:
  • such as free verse, blank verse, etc., or the art or work of a poet.

SYMBOL

  • An ordinary object, event, animal, or person to which we have attached extraordinary meaning and significance
  • Example:
  • a flag to represent a country, a lion to represent courage.
  • A small cross by the dangerous curve on the road reminded all of Johnny’s death.

ALLUSION

  • A brief reference to some person, historical event, work of art, or Biblical or mythological situation or character.
  • Example:

RYTHM

  • The rhyme or sounds of the words.
  • Example:
