The Union Found out the Confederates were planning to attack Harpers Ferry.

BATTLE OF SHILOH
Union troops gained more control of the Mississippi River Valley.
It was only a two day battle and each side lost and gained ground.

SIEGE OF VICKSBURG
It lasted about six weeks.
Hunger forced the confederates to surrender.
The Mississippi River was then under Union control.

She was army volunteer.
She formed the organization that was the American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross provided medical care for soldiers on the battle field.

On Abril 9, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse.
Lee had officially surrendered to Grant.
The Union had won the long, bloody war.
The Civil war was finally over after five years.
