WHY DO WE TAKE IT?

  • The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions.
  • The idea is to provide colleges with one common criterion that can be used to compare all applicants.

THE GREAT DEBATE

  • The debate began on July 3, 2015
  • Concluded on September 18, 2015
  • Final decision has influenced several American Universities and State Colleges

PROS AND CONS

  • They are choosing not to emphasize standardized test scores in their admissions decisions.
  • The hope is that this will diversify enrollment and open doors for underrepresented populations
  • Test-optional colleges may increase their applicant pool but not their enrollment numbers
