AQUATIC

LIVING OR GROWING IN WATER

PERMEABLE

capable of being permeated.

TERRESRIAL

pertaining to, consisting of, or representing the earth as distinct from other planets.

METHODOLOGY

methods, principles, and rules for regulating a given discipline, as in the arts or sciences.

CARCINOGEN

any substance or agent that tends to produce a cancer.

DUCTILE

capable of being hammered out thin, as certain metals; malleable.

ISOTOPE

any of two or more forms of a chemical element, having the same number of protons in the nucleus, or the same atomic number, but having different numbers of neutrons in the nucleus, or different atomic weights. There are 275 isotopes of the 81 stable elements, in addition to over 800 radioactive isotopes, and every element has known isotopic forms. Isotopes of a single element possess almost identical properties.

METALLOID

a nonmetal that in combination with a metal forms an alloy.

PARTICLE

amount; a tiny or very small bit: a particle of dust; not a particle of supporting evidence.

PLASM

A COMBINING FORM WITH THE MEANINGS “LIVING SUBSTANCE,” “TISSUE,” “SUBSTANCE OF A CELL,” USED IN THE FORMATION OF COMPOUND WORDS: ENDOPLASM; NEOPLASM; CYTOPLASM.

SYNTHETIC

of, pertaining to, proceeding by, or involving synthesis ( opposed to analytic ).
