PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Symbiosis is the close relationship between two species that benefits at least one of the species.
There are three types of symbiosis. Mutualism, Commensalism, & Parasitism.
Mutualism is a symbiotic relationship in which both species benefit.
The picture represents mutualism because the ruby throated humming bird (found in Michigan) is benefited with food, while the flower is benefitted by being pollinated.
Commensalism is a relationship in which one species benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed. The chickadee is helped by having a home in the tree, while the tree in neither helped nor harmed(Except for the fact that the tree has a new friend).
Parasitism is a relationship in which an organism lives in, or on another organism, harming it.
