PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Misjudging People

BY AMANDA FOUST

Examples from the book

  • "Shelly's nice, and she's nice, and she's got a lot of hair."
  • "...taking off and showing off like only Juli Baker can."

What is the author's opinion on this topic?

  • The author thinks it should be dealt with. For example,
  • at the beginning of the book, Bryce thought Juli was
  • annoying and a show-off, but towards the end of the
  • book, he doesn't think that anymore. Therefore, she's
  • saying that you should cope with your misjudgements.

Why did the author use this topic?

  • I think the author used this topic to
  • emphasize how wrong Bryce was of
  • Juli, and how wrong Juli was of Bryce.

RwP: Summarize the article

  • You should not judge someone on their appearance, for
  • example, if someone doesn't talk, you could think they
  • are just shy. But if you get to know them, they could turn
  • out to be extremely nice.

Discuss the RW example

  • I don't think it was very relevant to Flipped as much as I thought it would.
  • Bryce didn't judge Juli for her looks, besides the one time she was covered
  • in mud and he thought as was always muddy and disgusting. Bryce didn't
  • look at her appearance, because what he saw was a girl with a very high
  • self-esteem and lack of Bryce's hints that he didn't want to play with her.

opinion on rwp

  • My opinion is I think that the author is right. You shouldn't
  • stereotype someone if you haven't talked to them. And the
  • author did the right thing to try to befriend her. Most people
  • don't even speak to them, having their provided stereotype
  • stored in the back of their head whenever they see them.

How would the author react to the article

  • I think the author could agree in some ways and
  • disagree in others. I don't know, in writing she would
  • disagree. She would believe that people should
  • disagree. She would believe that people should
  • think what they want to think, which is true, but
  • they should review all the evidence first.
  • they should review all the evidence first.

*Continued*

  • But overall, I think she would agree with it,
  • because at the end of the book, all their
  • stereotypes dissolved. Juli didn't hate
  • Bryce anymore, and Juli wasn't a show
  • off to Bryce.
