In an article that we all read in class, there was a fact that said "1 1/2 gallons of seawater can contain more bacteria than there are people in the world

What we need to find out:

How many gallons are in the ocean?

After doing some research, I figured out that:

  • There isn't an exact number, but we can figure it out by doing this:
  • 1 cubic mile of water in the ocean = 1,000,000,000,000 gallons of water
  • There are 326 million square miles of water on the earth

If you multiply those together, you get 326,000,000,000,000,000,000 (326 million trillion) gallons of water in the ocean! But we're not quite done yet!
