  • The film was directed by William A. Wellman & stars James Cagney, Jean Harlow, Edward Woods & Joan Blondell.
  • The film relates the story of a young man's rise in the criminal underworld in prohibition-era urban America.
  • The supporting players include Beryl Mercer, Donald Cook, and Mae Clarke.
  • Many of the characters in the film were based on actual people.

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT - AUGUST 24, 1930

  • 1930 American war film based on the Erich Maria Remarque novel of the same name.
  • It was directed by Lewis Milestone, & stars Louis Wolheim, Lew Ayres, John Wray, Arnold Lucy & Ben Alexander.
  • considered a realistic and harrowing account of warfare in World War I
  • follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of WW1 by their jingoistic teacher.
  • The film isn't about heroism but about drudgery & futility & the gulf between the concept of war & the actuality.

SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS - 1937

  • A beautiful girl, Snow White, goes to the forest in the house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother, the wicked Queen.
  • The Queen is jealous because she wants to be known as "the fairest in the land"
  • The dwarfs rush home to chase the witch away, but they are too late to save Snow White from the poisoned apple.
  • a prince, who had previously met & fallen in love with Snow White, learns of her eternal sleep & visits her coffin.
