PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Properties of Matter Study Guild

State

State is a solid, liquid, gas.

1. Particles packed tightly together to create a solid

 2. Water is a liquid because particles bump into each other.

3. Gas is air that we breathe the particles spread far

apart they can also move rapidly and can also bump into each other.

Color

Color is a property of matter that scientist describe and compare.

hot pink,  purple, green

Texture

Something you can touch or feel.

basketball = bumpy

sand paper= rough

Temperature

Temperature is how hot or cold an object is.

Temperature is measured by fahrenheit and celsius.

Water freezes at 32 degrees fahrenheit which would be cold.

Iron ore is heated to 871 degrees fahrenheit to create steel. It is very hot.

If a beverage is too hot or too cold you use ice to cool it down.

Cold, hot, cool, warm

Mass

Mass is the amount of Matter in a object.

Grams and Kilograms

1.Place the object on one side of the pan balance.

Add gram weights to the other side till every side is balanced.

Then add the sum of the mass of the object.

Volume

Volume is the amount of space something takes up.

Liters,mL., cm3

Measure volume using width, height and base

multiply all three numbers together
