FUNDED BY HOUSE FILE 877 IN 2007

STATEWIDE VOLUNTARY PRESCHOOL FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS
The Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for Four-Year-Old Children was established May 10, 2007 when Governor Chet Culver signed House File 877 (HF 877) . The Preschool Program provides an opportunity for all young children in the State of Iowa to enter school ready to learn by expanding voluntary access to quality preschool curricula for all four-year-old children.

PROGRAMMING DECISIONS MADE?

HOW ARE
The Little Rams Preschool Program grows by an average of one new section per year. We must have guidelines in place for strategic growth.

STUDENTS FIRST

Our district Mission is: Learn.Lead.Live. Success for college, career and civic life. We always put students first as part of our Core Values.

This is always our first question....What is best for the child?

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

IOWA QUALITY PRESCHOOL PROGRAM STANDARDS
Our program follows the Iowa Quality Preschool Programming Standards. This requires 35 square feet/child/classroom.

The buildings were not constructed with housing preschoolers in mind. Since the program is voluntary, we need to be thoughtful about the growth process and where to have the preschool rooms located within the district.

We currently take 32 three-year-old children as typical peers that are integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education rooms . We are required by law to have these typical peers in the classrooms with children who have special needs.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

STRATEGIC GROWTH PLANS
Fiscal Integrity is a top priority at Southeast Polk.

We look forward to making decisions regarding our early childhood programming and increasing open slots as long as we are able to fund the new teachers, safe playgrounds and learning materials.

We are thankful that the federal and state governments have continued to fund and support early childhood education!
