  • A large powerful storm
  • Hurricanes form over warm water.The air needs to get cold quickly.
  • They can be up too 600 miles wide
  • They create powerful winds and flooding

Hurricanes occur over warm water and near tropical islands .The hurricane season is in the fall. In the Atlantic the hurricane season is from June 1to November 30. In the pacific the hurricane season is from May 15 to November 30.

How Are Hurricanes measured
Hurricanes are measured by Hurricane hunters that set up planes with advanced equipment to tell the temperature Air Pressure,wind speed and direction.

DANGERS

  • Storm surges can caus dangerous floods
  • In hurricane sandy 100 people died
  • Hurricanes can spread hundres of miles and affect many places

  • Stay in your basment
  • Don't go outside
  • Have a hurricane safety kit
  • A watch means a hurricane is coming
  • A warning means the hurricane is there

Hurricanes are a threat to NYC but not a HUGE threat.when hurricane sandy occurred NYC was effected drastically but with global warming hurricanes are becoming more and more likely ,so hurricanes DO have the potential to be a big threat to NYC, just not yet.

It is important to study weather so we know when hurricanes are going to occur . Knowing this can keep people and even save lives.
