INTRODUCTION

BEGINNINGS

• WJLB originally started as a testing station on May 9, 1941
• It was owned by John Lord Booth and operated as W49D

MID-ERA CHANGE

• The station would become WLOU on September 12, 1945
• The station played a format of mainly "beautiful" music

RESTARTING STEADINESS

• In June of 1948 WLOU became WMZK
• The station would stay that for 32 years switching off of "beautiful" music and foreign language programming for the time being

WJLB, FINALLY!

• In 1980, WMZK became WJLB and has stayed that way since
• The station played a format called CHUrban, a mix of contemporary radio and urban radio.
• WJLB is proclaimed as at the top of urban stations in Detroit for quite some time.

THE STYLE

• WJLB sticks to a relatively urban format, playing artists like J.cole, Fetty wap, Big Sean, Drake, and Chris Brown

LOCATION

• WJLB is located on 27675 Halsted road in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Not in Detroit as you would imagine, which came as a surprise to me.
