Sojourner Truth Library
Welcome to the library! This guide is designed to help you quickly know some of the best features of the Sojourner Truth Library at SUNY New Paltz.

1. As many as you can carry!

  • You can take out up to 50 books at one time.
  • You can borrow books for up to 4 weeks.
  • You can renew them twice.
  • You can take out media for 7 days.
"How many books can I check out?" is an often heard question. And it's a great one. Even better is the answer: up to 50!

interlibrary loan

we go the distance to get you books from anywhere!
Go the library homepage, under Resources, and select Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad). This will take you here: https://illiad.newpaltz.edu, where you can log in with your NP ID and password. First time that you log in, you'll need to confirm your contact information. After you request an item, you can always check the status by logging into ILLiad.

3. Databases

Quickly find scholarly articles for your papers!
Browse the databases by Subject to help you get started with finding scholarly articles in your discipline. Use the Discover Search to search all the databases (and the catalog) at one time. http://newpaltz.libguides.com/az.php

Find sources developed by experts!
Under Resources on the library homepage, there's a link to Research Guides. Here, librarians have put together the best places to find what you need for your class or subject. You can search the guide titles to see what research guides that we have, or browse BY TYPE at the top to explore course specific guides, General Topic guides, and Other Research Guides based on campus events and culture. http://newpaltz.libguides.com/

5. Simplify Your ReSearch

use advanced search filters
Once you're in a database, always always always use the Advanced Search to save time and find exactly want you need. To be the most effective and efficient, refine your results by only Peer Reviewed sources, limited date ranges, and break your search terms into separate search boxes.

7. reserves

Under Resources on the library home page, there's a link for Library Reserves. It will take you to where you can search for books and materials that your professor put in the library for you to use throughout the semester. Reserves are usually on short term loan. http://library.newpaltz.edu/reserves

Beyond the study rooms and study spaces, we have streaming video, documentaries, films, DVDs and CDs, and streaming music in our databases. You can search images and videos, too.

9. tech tools

ipads and laptops--oh my!
Laptops, iPads, calculators, rulers and chargers, we have a lot of tech. We even have experimental art and design supplies like analog typewriters and zine making kits! Check out the maker space we're building on the Concourse level and get started with your creativity and collaboration.
