Background

  • Born in Pisa, Italy on February 25, 1564
  • His father wished for him to study medicine
  • Galileo was sent to study in a Jesuit Monastry
  • After four years of studying, Galileo told his father that he wanted to
  • Be a monk

BACKGROUND

  • He was withdrawn from the monastery
  • At the age of 17, he enrolled in the university of Pisa
  • to study medicine
  • Galileo found a swinging lamp, and timed it with his pulse
  • He found that each long and short swing took the same amount of time

BACKGROUND

  • Galileo was bored with everything except math
  • He made a deal to be tutored in math by a tutor on the tuscan court
  • He left college without a degree
  • Galileo earned a living tutoring math to kids
  • He discovered that gold is 19.3 times heavier that the same volume of water

  • Galileo moved to Padua and invented a military compass
  • He did this because his father died, and his sister put him in debt
  • He became so famous that students flocked to the university.
  • He reconstructed the telescope, and found the moon was battered
  • He then found that Jupiter's moons rotated around Jupiter

  • Galileo claimed the earth rotated around the sun
  • He was prosicuted, and died in house arrest in 1642

WORLD EVENTS

  • Jamestown was established in 1607
  • Samuel de Champlain created the colony of Quebec in 1609
  • Gustavus Adolphus was elected the King of Sweden in 1611
  • The thirty year war started in 1618
  • Pilgrams landed in plymoth in 1620

Why he was important
Galileo was important because he discovered the law of Pendulum. He also proved Aristotle's theory to be false

HE ALSO STARTED THE IDEA THAT THE EARTH ORBITED AROUND THE SUN
