Five years ago, there was a woman whose husband had died. She was now a widow. The man was a slave before he got married with her. When he died she was going to his funeral. Then she got in the canoe. After one hour her canoe sunk because she lost her controle.

She didn't know how to swim. While she was drowning a steamboat appeared. She thought that they came for save her, but they want money. They kidnapped her and they took her to a cabin and she saw a rat there.

They want ransom from their relatives. They hunted for her health. One night she saw a ghost. Then she itched. When the kidnappers slept heavily she ecaped and while she was running she saw a raft and she quickly got in. When she arrived the town duck listened her story and gave a reward for her courage and perseverance.
