IN 1790 B.C.

HAMMURABI BROUGHT MESOPOTAMIA UNDER HIS CONTROL

INTELLIGENT AND STRONG LEADER

HAMMURABI WROTE 282 CODE OF LAWS. (CRIMINAL AND CIVIL)

CODE OF LAWS

  • If a man has accused another of laying a Nertu
  • (death spell)Upon him but has not proved it,
  • He shall be put death.

HAMMURABI

  • Was a strict ruler.
  • His goals were to cause justice to prevail in the land/
  • To destroy the wicked and evil
  • And that the strong may not oppress the weak.

HAMMURABI

  • He was a very ambitious ruler.
  • This is shown when he tried to get everyone in his empire to know
  • The legal principles his government would follow.
  • However, most people in this time could not read or write.
  • These people would not know the codes he put into place.
