Gothic cathedrals

  • Gothic cathedrals are all around Europe 
  • Some of the most famous ones are the Maria del Fiore 1436
  • Notre Dame 1345
  • Milan 1386
  • All these cathedrals were built for worship

  • All the cathedrals have a rich history behind them 
  • The cathedrals all have spire towers to the sides of them
  • They were inspired from Roman architecture 
  • all the churches contain rose windows
  • The churches took centuries to build

Everlasting memories/Notre Dame

  • Many kings were crowned inside these cathedrals
  • King Henry VI was crowned in 1431inside Notre Dame
  • Napoleon was made emperor in 1804 inside Notre Dame
  • Most importantly Joan of Arch was made a saint in 1909

  • The purpose behind these monuments is to show people the way of god
  • The cathedral churches provided a service to the people
  • They helped keep people educated and also help restore honor to some

  • Hagia sophia 
  • the aqueducts of Valen

Emperor Justinian i

  • Emperor Justinian I was responsible for much of the architecture
  • He rebuilt the hagia sophia 
  • helped spread christianity
  • created a whole new set of laws that actually worked

  • The historical landmarks were derived from greek and roman architecture 
  • The Hagia Sophia has a dome top and colored windows
  • The golden horn was located around the shoreline around the trade centers 
  • The valen aqueducts were constructed like the with the greek pillars

  • The Hagia Sophia was reconstructed 3 times
  • Construction on it began in 532 and finished on 537[
  • On December 27, 537 it was opened for worship
  • It remained a church for 916 years but then was converted into a mosque
  • It was a mosques for 482 years and then on 1935 was made a museum

  • The byzatine empire was religiously diverse but most christian 
  • It profited largely off of trade
  • was a very secure city 
  • Had laws made by emperor Justinian I
