79 Million Years Long and 66 Million Years Ago

What was happening to the planet during this time?

  • The land on Earth was in two continents, with seaways separating them.
  • The land was shrinking because of floods. It covered 18% instead of the 28%
  • Pangea had already started to break apart in the Cretaceous Period.

Climate

  • The climate during this time was hotter and more humid.
  • This might have been caused by volcanoes and seafloor spreading.

Life

  • There were Dinosaurs, Fish, Marine Reptiles and Birds.
  • This time is known for the first sight of the flowering plant.
  • There were also Ferns, Cycads, and Conifers.
  • Early kinds of Grasshoppers, Ants, Butterflies, and Termites appeard.

Mass extincton

  • The end of this period marked the end of the Dinosaurs.
  • The dinosaurs went extinct and some marine reptiles.
  • Some say it was a normal thing and they died before the asteroid hit earth
