STP

  • Standard temperature: 0 C=273K
  • Standard pressure: 1atm =760mmHg =760torr = 101.3kPa

Three gas Laws

  • Boyles Law: P1(V1)=P2(V2)
  • Charles law: V1/Tl=V2/T2
  • Gay-Lussac's Law: P1/T1=P2/T2

combined Gas law

  • P1xV1/T1=P2xV2/T2
  • This is the three laws all combined into one law

Ideal gas law

  • Formula: PV=nRT
  • P: pressure
  • V: volume
  • n: number of moles
  • R: the constant
  • T: temperature

When to Use one of the laws

  • Combined gas law: when there is 2 pressures, 2 temperatures, and/or 2 volumes
  • Ideal gas law: when the problem says something about moles or grams.
