MUMMIFICATION

FIRST STEP

• Embalming
• Take body into a tent (ibu) "place of purification
• Wash bodies in palm wine
• Rinse body with water from the nile
• Cut the left side of the body to pull out all of the internal organs they were the first things to decompose

SECOND STEP

• Take the liver ,lungs,stomach and intestines
• Would wash in netron(salt used to dry out organs)
• Left heart in because egypitians believed it was center of intelligence And feeling
• They also believed they would need it in the after life
• Used brain hook to smash brain and pull it out through nose

THIRD STEP

• Wrapping the mummy
• First they wrap head and neck
• Fingers and toes individually wrapped
• Arms and legs seperately( not touching)
• Put amulets ( pieces of metal) protect body through its journey in the underworld

More on wrapping mummies

• Priests read spells while mummies being wrapped
• They do that to word off evil spirits help them get to the afterlife
• TIe arms and legs together
• Put the book of the dead in between wrapped hands( book has spells)
• They wrap the whole entire body in more linen strips they paint each layer with resin it helps keep bandages together

• Another cloth is wrpped around the body and on the top it has the picture of the god osiris
• An even bigger cloth is wrapped around the mummy they put a bunch of strips of linen that run through the top and bottom
• A board of painted wood is placed on top of the mummy they put it in the coffin
• That coffin is put into another coffin then they do a funeral

• At the funeral they do a ritual ( opening of the mouth)
• It allows the Mummy to eat and drink again
• Put the coffin inside sarcophagus a box of stone or wood
• Thats in the tomb, all of their valubules are placed in the tomb with them
