PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ORGANELLES

BY: SHYAN FLACK

NUCLEUS

  • Description- Looks like a
  • Definition- contains and protects DNA and controls major functions

NUCLEOLUS

  • Description- looks like a
  • Definition- The nucleolus contains RNA and ribosomes

NUCLEAR ENVELOPE

  • Description- Looks like a
  • Definition- To regulate the exchange of substances (like protein and RNA) between the cytoplasm and nucleus

CHROMATIN

  • Description- Looks like yarn
  • Definition- efficiently package DNA into a small volume to fit into the nucleus of a cell and protect the DNA structure and sequence

PLASMA MEMBRANE

  • Description- Looks like the inside of a licorice
  • Definition- Consists of both lipids and proteins. The fundamental structure of the membrane is the phospholipid bilayer, which forms a stable barrier between two aqueous compartments

CILIA

  • Description- looks like a leaf
  • Definition- Move liquid past the surface of the cell

FLAGELLA

  • Description- looks like a rat tail
  • Definition- allows a cell to move

MITOCHONDRIA

  • Description- looks like a pill
  • Definition- The main job of mitochondria is to perform cellular respiration. This means it takes in nutrients from the cell, breaks it down, and turns it into energy. This energy is then in turn used by the cell to carry out various functions.

RIBOSOME

  • Description- Looks like a dot
  • Definition- Ribosomes are a cell structure this makes protein. Protein is needed for many cell functions such as repairing damage or directing chemical processes

SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM

  • Description- Looks like a folded fruit roll up
  • Definition- Synthesizes lipids, phospholipids, and steroids

ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM

  • Description- looks like a folded fruit roll up with dots on it
  • Definition- Responsible for the assembly of many prote

GOLGI APPARATUS

  • Description- looks like a stack of pancakes
  • Definition- A major function is the modifying, sorting and packaging of proteins for secretion

LYSOSOME

  • Description- looks like a bubble
  • Definition- Remove waste and digestion

MICROFILAMENT

  • Description- Looks like an aux cord
  • Definition- assists with cell movement

MICROTUBULE

  • Description- Looks like a water slide (tube)
  • Definition- supports cell

CENTRIOLE

  • Description- Looks like a twizzler bites
  • Definition- helps with cell division in animals

VESICLES

  • Description- looks like a lot of spiders with connected legs
  • Definition- Can form naturally during the process of secretion

VACUOLE

  • Description- looks like a water ballon
  • Definition- holds material and waste
