CRITISMS OF NEW DEAL

THE SUPREME COURT

• The Supreme Court made the NIRA and AAA unconstitutional
• They were conservative, unlike FDR new deal plan
• Thought federal government had too much power.

THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY

• Many big business disliked the SEC and the NIRA plan
• Did not like the deficit spending and added regulation
• They didn't like the fact that government was not helping them as much as Hoover was.
• Were taxed too much from government

REPUBLICAN PARTY

• Supported the idea of rugged individualism, unlike the new deal's idea
• Disliked the use of direct relief
• Thought that the new deal was really an attack on free institutions
• Disliked the idea of deficit spending, thought that citizens can depend on theirselves, not government money.

FATHER CHARLES E. COUGHLIN

• Was a demagogue and used to be a supporter of FDR
• Stopped his support after FDR didn't nationalize banks
• He favored an annual income
• Tried to connect bankers to Jew conspiracy

HUEY LONG

• He thought the New deal didn't do enough to help the poor people
• He disliked the federal reserve system
• Was an opponent of FDR
