PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
POPULATION PREDICTION PROBLEMS
Issue 1- compounding
Issue 2- emigration and immigration
Issue 3- culture consideration
Issue 4- chronic disease
All of these issues affect the population
2.
ISSUE 1-COMPOUNDING
Fertility rate affects population
Example: China because only one baby per woman
Example: Uganda because eight babies per woman
The amount of babies born per woman continues for generations
This can affect the population positively or negatively: too little or too many babies
3.
ISSUE 2- EMIGRATION & IMMIGRATION
Emigrate- to move from a place
Immigrate- to move to a place
Most people migrate for mainly economic reasons
Refugees- people who must leave an area because they are in danger
War is a common reason for people to be pushed out of an area
4.
ISSUE 3- CULTURE CONSIDERATION
The spread of a culture affects population
Some cultures don't care about what stage an area is in, they still make many babies
Example: people in India have many kids even though having them in their stage is bad
Government can also affect population. Ex: one child law in China
Culture is a large influence on population
5.
ISSUE 4-CHRONIC DISEASE, NATURAL DISASTERS, WAR
Natural disasters and war take out CHUNKS of the population
Chronic disease is more apart of the modern era
These factors greatly affect the population growth rate
Ex: WWII...populations were wiped out by Hitler and his army. He killed 2/3 of a cultural group!!
Ex: AIDS in Uganda had killed many and put many in jeopardy
6.
"HOW MANY AND WHERE?" CONNECTION
Culture is a huge influence on population in a certain area
Ex: In Uganda, their culture is to have many babies, therefore they do!!
The amount of people in an area can be too little or too many
If too little, then there won't be enough people working, thus causing decrease in economic success
If too many, then there could be overpopulation, which leads to famines and other issues
