CONNECTICUT COLONY

FACTS

  • One of the original 13 colonies
  • On the Atlantic side of North America
  • Existed between 1636 and 1776
  • Connecticut means "river whose water is driven by tides or winds.”

CONNECTICUT'S COLONY WAS

  • Mild winter and summer
  • Thuderstorms most often occur in summer
  • Tornados almost every year
  • Hurricanes occasionally effect the weather

GEOGRAPHY

  • Lots of mountains with a thick growth of trees
  • And rivers, and rocky soil that's not the best for farming.
  • Narrow lowlands and hilly uplands to the east.

RELIGIONS

  • There was no religious freedom in the Connecticut colony
  • The Puritans didn't want anyone who was not of their faith
  • Freedom of religion was not allowed

WHY WAS IT FOUNDED

  • For political freedom and for religious freedom
  • Because of an argument of Massachusetts Bay
