THE 8 CHARACTERISTICS OF LIFE

BY: SAMANTHA, NANCY, AND GABI

CELLS

Every living thing has to have cells. For example a fish has cells just like humans and plants do.

COMPLEX ORGANIZATION

A complex organization requires all of the small parts to work together so the whole thing can function. For example if the iPad didn't have the camera or the generator it couldn't function properly. Each small piece may not be important separately but when you put them all together they make a well oiled machine.

METABOLISM

The reason we used m&ms is because it represents food. When you eat food your body has a chemical reaction. Your stomach acid begins to burn of the food you just ate.

HOMEOSTASIS

Homeostasis is how your body responds in certain situations to keep the balance. If you went running you would be overheated and therefore there would be an imbalance. Your body's way of responding to this is causing you to perspire(sweat) to release some of the heat.

REPRODUCTION

This little tree is a reproduction of the bigger tree. Even though they are still connected it doesn't matter because it's still a reproduction.

RESPONIVNESS

Humans have stimuli and what this means is that we have the ability to respond to situations. For example in the picture a crumpled paper ball was thrown at Gabi and her stimuli was to slap it down. Another example would be if someone scared you, you would jump and that would be the stimuli.

GROWTH

Every living thing has cells that split into two and this causes you to grow, there are only a few exceptions to this. Humans grow and plants grow but one of the things that don't grow a lot are uni cellular.

ADAPTION

This flower was meant to be a sun plant( it needs more sunlight)but it was accidentally planted in a dark area. It adapted to receiving a significant less amount of sunshine in order to survive.
