SALT MARSH DEFINITION:

  • an area of costal grass land that is regularly flooded by seawater

location

  • Low-lying costal regions
  • In the United States they can be found on every cost

Unique Characteristics

  • Plants are shades of grey, gree, and brown
  • Occurs where salt water and fresh water mix
  • One of the most productive ecosystems on earth
  • thrive on low energy

  • Winter flounder
  • Four-spine stickleback
  • Shrimp
  • Sand eel

Four common plants

  • Pickleweed
  • Smooth cord grass
  • Phragmite ausralis
  • Common phragmite reed
