FANTASY BOOKS ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE:

  • Magic
  • Mythical creatures
  • Good and evil
  • Royalty

Characteristics Of Fantasy

  • Fantasy is a very distinct genre. It has very recognizable characteristics such as:
  • MAGIC! Lots and lots of magic!
  • Usually some kind of royalty or overly powerful government
  • Mythical creatures (Unicorns, Dragons, etc.)
  • Fantasy books are 100% fiction. Their events cannot take place in real life.
  • Some sort of "good" and "evil" characters and a conflict between them.

What I Like About Fantasy

  • I think magic is awesome! Stories about magic and fictional worlds are so cool to me.
  • The characters are very easy to fall in love with.

What I Dislike About Fantasy

  • Sometimes the plot lines from series to series seem very similar to each other.
  • Sometimes said characters mentioned in the last slide tend to die off just when you start to root for them...

EXAMPLES?

  • Here are some classic Fantasy books you will probably recognize:
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - J.K Rowling
  • Eldest - Christopher Paolini
  • The Wizard Of Oz - L. Frank Baum
  • The Hobbit - J.R.R Tolkien
  • The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - C.S Lewis

MOVIES?

  • Here are some famous book - to - movie conversions in the Fantasy genre:
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - J.K Rowling
  • Twilight - Stephanie Meyer
  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan

ANYTHING ELSE?

  • Here are a few last things you should know about Fantasy:
  • Fantasy books can be very happy or very sad. Be careful if you don't like sad endings.
  • Don't trust the characters. Plot twists are not uncommon!
  • You may become obsessed like I have.
