Who?

  • Who wrote the website?
  • Can you contact them
  • Are they qualified?
  • Is there an organization in charge

Then ask why.

  • Why is this on the internet?
  • What is the purpose of this?

Revelence

  • Has it been updated recently?
  • Who is the site intended for?

Lastly

  • Was it meant for the internet?
  • Or was it meant for something else?

As an extra reassurance make sure you compare some content on the website to your textbook or previous, true knowledge to make sure the site is accurate...

Some helpful tips

  • The .(...) at the end of the url...
  • It can tell you what type of website it is.
  • For example...

gov = Governmental agency

.org = Organization

.net = Internet service provider

.com = Commercial site

.edu = Higher education

.mil = Military site

.info = Information site (UNREGULATED)

~ = Personal site

(Remember: There is no domain owner or publisher
vouching for the information on personal pages.)

If you want to know who sponsers, or pays for a website, google whois(name of website) to see their information...
