WIND ENERGY

A POWER PLANT THAT USES WINDMILLS TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY

HOW DO WINDMILLS WORK?

  • They face the three blades of the windmills towards the wind. The blades are
  • Twisted so it catches the wind. the wind whirls around making the
  • Blades on the windmill spin. The blades are connected to a generater that
  • Converts the wind into useful energy.

HOW COULD THIS ENERGY SOURCE BE USED? CURRENT USES?

  • It's current use it to make electricity.
  • With the electricity you can turn on lights in buildings and factories.
  • Can tell where the wind is blowing.
  • Charges batteries. Helps pump water into the towers.

EFFECTS ON OUR ENVIRONMENT

  • It's has an effect on animals. The blades are solid so birds can sit without being hit.
  • Effected the noises. The windmills are really loud. Earlier windmills were louder than the ones we have now
  • Safety concerns are mainly about the blades and how they kill things.
  • Gives us energy for our lights and buildings so we can see.

IS WIND WIDLEY ACCEPTED TODAY?

  • Wind energy is widely accepted today.
  • About 86 countries use wind power to get energy.
  • Some of them are the United States, United Kingdom, France, India
  • Germany,Spain, China, Denmark,Portugal, and Italy
  • That's just some examples of some that use wind energy.

POSITIVES

  • Clean energy source that is renewable and reliable.
  • Doesn't pollute the air. Because there's no fuel being burned to generate electricity.
  • Wind doesn't cost anything.
  • Windmills Take up only a little room.

NEGATIVES

  • Kills 20-37thousand birds a year
  • Propellers are too loud, and irritates the neighbors.
  • Some carbon dioxide is released when people work with windmills
  • Kills many animals
  • Wind power doesn't create the same amount of energy all the time.
