ABOUT

  • Lent is like a pilgramage
  • We focus on following Christ
  • Begins on Ash Wednesday
  • Ends on Holy Thursday evening

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

  • Each station we usually pray this way: "we adore O Christ and we bless you,
  • because by your holy cross tou have redeemed the world"
  • Station means " stopping point." Coming from a Latin word
  • There are fourteen Stations of the Cross

PRAYER

  • We focus on God's mercy and forgiveness
  • We devote more time for personal prayer
  • We call out to God to remember us and strengthen us to live by his laws
  • The Church prays especially for those who are receiving Christian Initiation

FASTING

  • A way to cleanse our bodies of harmful things and our hearts and minds
  • Also a form of Penance
  • A way to fast is to give up things we enjoy
  • Catholics of a certain age are called to fast from food on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

ALMSGIVING

  • We follow Jesus' example of providing for the hungry and caring for the sick
  • We try to help other people to get the things that they need
  • Many parishes have food and clothing drives for this time of year
  • Many families participate in these drives

  • Is the first day of Catholic Lenten season
  • A day of fasting and abstinence
  • Catholics receive ashes during the Mass and this time
