Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States, and he was the second Vice President. He represented the Democratic-Republican Party. They thought they were saving the nation from monarchy and oppression.

Jefferson was an author and he was apart of the constitutional writing process. He was also an architect. He designed the Monticello and improved the copying machine.

He was a skilled violinist, horseman, amateur scientist, and a was a devoted reader. He served for two terms.

He lost his child and his wife in the same year, Both due to death.

He tried to unite America by promoting a common way of life. He wanted America to remain a nation with small independent farmers. (But upholding
strong morals and democratic values.)

Louisiana Purchase was approved even though Jefferson believed in a strict construction of the constitution.

He behaved more like a gentleman farmer than a privileged politician. He enjoyed nature and that earth did not belong to humans.

His belief in a modest role for central government is reflected in the changes made during his presidency. He believed that the federal government should have less power than it had under the federalist. He sought to end many federalist programs.

Congress was now controlled by democratic republicans which allowed the Alien and Sedition Acts to end. He was a US minister to France. In his first term he reduced the debt by one third.

He got his live for farming from his dad, his mother passed down Jeffersons high social class rank and was the Secretary of State in Washington's cabinet. He was also fluent in five languages.
