  • Around 1837 he was said to become romantically involved with Anne Rutledge, but she died of typhoid fever

PERSONAL LIFE

  • He courted with Mary Owens, about a year after Anne Rutledge
  • Lincoln became engaged to Mary Todd and later married her in 1842

PRESIDENCY

  • He signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863
  • On April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated
  • He was the president during the American Civil War
