Malala's story

  • Malala is from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of north west Pakistan, where the Taliban have taken control and placed restrictions on citizens there.

Malala stood up for the rights of women and children in her country and around the world.

Threatened by her strength and compassion, the Taliban attempted to assassinate her.

She survived and regained her health. Her assassination attempt ignited protests across Pakistan.

In response, over 2 million people signed the Right to Education campaign, which helped lead to the ratification of Pakistan's first right to education bill ("Malala's story," 2015, para.9)

Malala's strength to stand up for what she believed in brought attention to the millions of children in the world who are denied an education.

At the age of 17, Malala Yousafzai is the youngest person to earn the Nobel Peace Prize, earning her international recognition for her advocacy for female education.
